Skiing in Himachal Pradesh Skiing is actually a very old adventure sport, but it has recently got its due recognition in the state of Himachal Pradesh. The true potential of Himachal Pradesh to serve as an ideal destination for skiing was recognized by the British officials in India. There are two categories skiing can be divided into. These include Alpine (racing down steep slopes) and Nordic skiing (cross country and ski jumping). Himachal Pradesh with its snow-capped mountain ranges of Shivalik, Pir Pinjal, Dhauladar and the Great Himalayas offers opportunities for both types of skiing.

If you love speed and can balance fairly well, just the thought of skiing will excite you. The whole of the experience of racing down the snow-clad slopes cannot de described in words but can only be felt. You will feel great fun and thrill while you ski in Himachal. Kufri, Narkanda and Manali are the major sites for skiing in Himachal Pradesh.

Kufri

A famous centre for skiing in Himachal Pradesh is Kufri. Kufri, 17 kilometres off Shimla, is a major attraction for tourists from all parts of the world. In the month of February each year a sports festival is held in Kufri. It is organized to promote skiing in Himachal.

Narkanda

Yet another ideal place for skiing in Himachal Pradesh is Narkanda which is 64 kilometres off Shimla. The long ski routes in Narkanda are difficult ones for a beginner but the best for a professional. During the winter months, the whole of Narkanda serves as an excellent ski ground covered with sheets of soft snow. The slopes of Narkanda appeal greatly to the adventure lovers. Several skiing races are also held in Narkanda that make the sport even more interesting.
